Abstract

The sectoral economic growth at the distric/city level has a significant impact on regional development. Therefore, cluster analysis becomes important for understanding the patterns and characteristics of sectoral economies in West Java. This research aims to understand the development and implementation of sectoral economies based on clustering results of districts/cities in West Java. The research data was obtained from the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) of West Java. This study utilized 12 variables based on 4 Indicators of sectoral economies, including tourism, agriculture, industry and MSMEs. The K-Medoids method was used for cluster analysis to obtain profiles of sectoral economic implementation in West Java on the best model, considering the smallest value of the Davies-Bouldin Index (DBI). Based on the modelling results, the best cluster model resulted in 4 regional clusters. Districs/cities in Cluster 1 excel in tourism, industry and MSMe indiactors. Districts/cities 2 excel in agriculture indicators. Meanwhile, districs/cities ini Cluster 4 and Cluster 4 need improvement across all indicators used. Urgent actions are required by the local and provincial government of West Java to support districts/cities in Clusters 3 and 4. This provides valuable insights for targeted policy interventions to promote balanced sectroral development in West Java.
